October 27 by Jiangsu Etern Co., Ltd. The national superconductivity academic seminar hosted by the Suzhou Institute of New Materials, a subsidiary of the company, was successfully held. The academic conference was hosted by a private scientific research institution for the first time, highlighting Yongding's leading level in the domestic superconductivity field. Yongding Company entered the field of superconductivity in 2010 and undertook the national 863 project in 2014. At present, the second generation of high temperature superconducting tapes developed by Suzhou New Materials has achieved kilometer-level production, with an annual output of 600 kilometers. It has been tried out in military industry, electric power and other fields, which can increase the transmission current capacity by 5 to 10 times and reduce the long-distance transmission line loss from 10% to 2
October 27 by Jiangsu Etern Co., Ltd. At present, the second-generation high-temperature superconducting tapes developed by Suzhou New Materials have achieved kilometer-level production, with an annual output of 600 kilometers. They have been tried out in military industry, electric power and other fields, and can increase the transmission current capacity by 5 to 10 times. The long-distance transmission line loss is reduced from 10% to less than 2%, and the energy consumption is reduced by 2/3.
Superconductivity is regarded as one of the greatest scientific discoveries of the 20th century. According to Dr. Cai Yuan, CEO of Suzhou Institute of New Materials, the organizer of this academic seminar, the superconducting state is a phenomenon in which the resistance of some materials suddenly disappears when the temperature drops to a specific critical temperature. The industry usually uses liquid nitrogen temperature (77K) as the dividing line, and divides superconducting materials into low temperature and high temperature. High-temperature superconducting materials are used in the liquid nitrogen temperature zone, low-temperature superconducting materials are used in the liquid helium temperature zone, and the cost of liquid nitrogen is the 1% of liquid helium, so high-temperature superconducting materials have more large-scale application value.
High-temperature superconducting tape material is very thin, 1 meter long, less than 100 microns thick superconducting tape in the hand like the weight of a silk scarf. According to Dr. Xie Yiyuan, chief operating officer of Suzhou New Materials Research Institute, the institute has the first kilometer high temperature superconducting tape production line with completely independent intellectual property rights in China, with an epitaxial growth speed of 180 meters per hour, which is at the world-class level.
Cai Yuan introduced that metallurgy, superconducting material preparation and other material industries are the foundation and core of the superconducting industry. The second-generation high-temperature superconducting tapes produced by the institute have been tried out in military industry, electric power and other fields. "Especially in power transmission, high-temperature superconducting materials can increase the transmission current capacity by 5 to 10 times, the long-distance transmission line loss is reduced from 10% to less than 2%, and the energy consumption is reduced by 2/3." Cai Yuan said that with the maturity of the kilometer-level strip preparation technology, a batch of new superconducting application products are expected to be trial-produced in the near future and put into industrialization.
