On September 4, 2023, Mr. Zhang Dezhi, director and senior expert of the access network research center of the Network Institute of China Telecom Research Institute, delivered a keynote speech on 50GPON at the Xunshi seminar, mentioning several technical difficulties. One point: in order to share the industrial chain, 50G-PON upstream wavelength tends to choose 1286±2nm. The difficulty of technical breakthrough here is that the upstream wavelength interval between 50G-PON and G-PON is only 2nm, and it is very difficult to realize wavelength division multiplexing with 30dB isolation, which requires the industry to work together to tackle technical difficulties.
