3/14/2022, Optical Fiber Online News, OFC2022 News, On the afternoon of March 8, US Pacific Time, at the Tu3F (Optical Transmission for 5G) link of OFC, senior expert Zhang Dezhi of China Telecom Research Institute gave a special invitation report on "Exhibition and Experiment of New Semi-active System for 5G Forward Transmission, Integrated CWDM and Circumferon. The authors of the report also include Du Zhe, Cheng Ming and Jiang Ming of China Telecom Research Institute, Liu Xinfeng of FiberHome Communications and Li Xin of Yongding Optoelectronics.

The new semi-active system integrating CWDM and circulator is referred to as CC scheme in China. It is said that the products based on this scheme have participated in the telecom centralized procurement test. The special report of China Telecom Research Institute in OFC will promote the program to be further recognized and applied worldwide.

Zhang Dezhi pointed out in the report that considering the demand of 5G and 4G hybrid networking, in addition to the 6 wavelengths of 1271nm to 1371nm, the traditional scheme also needs to use another 6 CWDM wavelengths of 1511nm to 1611nm. The technical challenge of this expansion lies in the high dispersion and high complexity (the introduction of EA modulated lasers), and the industry chain behind the new wavelength corresponding lasers also needs to be cultivated. To this end, China Telecom Research Institute, in conjunction with FiberHome and Yongding Company, has designed a single system 6-channel fronthaul link capability by inserting optical circulators into multiplexers and demultiplexers using only 6 standard CWDM wavelengths (1271nm to 1371nm). Yongding Company provided some key devices for the program.

Finally, the results of the joint research are summarized, and a real-time CWDM semi-active system with circulators is realized based on 6 CWDM wavelengths, which supports 25Gbps per channel. The real-time monitoring of the uplink and downlink channels is realized through the system integrated PD, and the protection switching function is realized based on the optical switch. The laboratory and field experimental data are provided to show that the system can meet the reliability and operation and maintenance requirements of the fronthaul application.

The new semi-active system integrating CWDM and circulator is referred to as CC scheme in China. It is said that the products based on this scheme have participated in the telecom centralized procurement test. The special report of China Telecom Research Institute in OFC will promote the program to be further recognized and applied worldwide.
